Ian “Buddy” Herzog

Ian HerzogMr. Herzog was raised in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended the University of Oklahoma as an undergraduate and USC School of Law.

Mr. Herzog began practice with The Law Offices of Ned Good in 1968, specializing in aviation, products liability, highway design and insurance bad faith cases.

In 1981 he founded The Law Offices of Ian Herzog.

In 1982 he was honored by The Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Association (now known as The Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles) as Trial Lawyer of the Year. This is an honor bestowed just one time in a career. Mr. Herzog won the award the first time he was nominated and while still in his 30’s, the youngest attorney so honored at the time.

In 1983 he was elected President of The Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Association.

In 1987 he was honored with LATLA’s Ted Horne Memorial Award, given for service to the legal profession.

In 1991 he became President of the California Trial Lawyers Association.

In 1993 he received that organization’s Marvin E. Lewis Memorial Award, an honor bestowed on selected trial lawyers for excellence over an entire legal career.

In 2000 the Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles created The Ian Herzog Appellate Lawyer of the Year Award and honored him as its first recipient.

In 2002 The California Consumer Attorneys awarded him the Legislative Champion Award.

In 2006 he was inducted into The Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed on a select few trial lawyers with distinguished careers who have made significant contributions to the legal profession and to society.

He was a member for many years of the BAJI Committee, the group of Judges and attorneys responsible for writing the law read to California juries to instruct them on the law governing each case.

He served as Editor-in-Chief of “The Advocate”, the monthly journal of The Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Association in the 1970s.

Mr. Herzog has been a licensed pilot since 1961, having accumulated thousands of hours as pilot-in-command. He is a Commercial pilot, rated in various aircraft including Cessna Citations. He is the current owner/operator/pilot of a twin engine jet turbo prop aircraft.

Mr. Herzog has been recognized as a leading aviation accident litigation specialist for over three decades. He’s handled and consulted on significant aviation crash cases including every class of accident from small general aviation aircraft and helicopters to military accidents and a host of corporate and airline disasters, including landmark cases against the FAA.

Amicus Curiae Committee. This committee volunteers, writes and submits “friend of the Court” briefs to the California Supreme Court.
